Character Dance is a vital part of classical ballet training, especially within the Vaganova Ballet method, which emphasizes a strong foundation in traditional folk-inspired movement. In our Character classes, students learn stylized dances based on national styles adapted for the ballet stage. These classes develop musicality, coordination, and theatrical expression while enriching a dancer’s understanding of ballet’s cultural and historical roots. Character dance brings depth, and diversity to a dancer’s education, and is often featured in full-length classical ballets and examinations.
In the 2026/2027 dance season, Historical & Character dance class is accompanied by a live pianist.
An essential component of Vaganova ballet training, this class introduces students to stylized folk and court dances drawn from classical ballet repertoire. Through precise footwork, musicality, and expressive movement, dancers deepen their understanding of culture styles while developing the strength, coordination, and theatricality required for full-length ballets.
Tuesday (with live pianist): 5:00 – 6:00
