Last Thursday, the Hamilton Academy of Performing Arts had a successful Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony. The event was attended by over 100 people, including friends, family, specials guests, local supporters of the Arts, along with representatives of 3 levels of government: Almut Sweet, wife of David Sweet, MP, Ted McMeekin, MPP, and Hamilton city council members- Councillor Russ Powers and Councillor Tom Jackson. Congratulatory greetings came via letter from Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger, as well as Karen Kain, Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Canada.
The evening was embellished by the dance, vocal & piano performances of the first students of the Hamilton Academy of Performing Arts and guest dancers of Hamilton City Ballet. Caleigh did a beautiful dance of the Mazurka variation from Chopin’s “Les Sylphides”. Ailish and Ricky performed the Waltz pas-de-deux of the same ballet with much grace and softness. Ekaterina Chelekhova stunned the audience with her beautiful voice, during her guest vocal performance. We thank all that have attended and supported the young artists of tomorrow!…
New to Hamilton City Ballet this year are Modern classes. There are two levels of classes- for the beginner and for the more experienced dancer. Come out and try a class on a Tuesday evening!
The Dvd’s from last year’s performance of “Coppelia” are now available. There are two dvd’s available- Friday evening’s performance and Saturday evening’s performance.
